New Willow comic coming too....

DARK HORSE ANNOUNCES WILLOW SERIES!
JOSS WHEDON’S FAN FAVORITE RETURNS!
APRIL 18, MILWAUKIE, OR – Dark Horse Comics announces another exciting addition to the Buffyverse:
Willow gets her own miniseries!
Written by Jeff Parker (Thunderbolts, Agents of Atlas) and drawn by Brian Ching (Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Witchblade), Willow tells the story of the witch’s obsessive journey to recover her magic.
Willow is on a quest to bring magic back to the world, and she’ll do anything to make it happen, including forming some unhealthy alliances after cracking the code to travel to other dimensions—something thought impossible since the destruction of the Seed.
Willow #1 is on sale November 21, 2012.

New Spike comic coming....

DARK HORSE ANNOUNCES SPIKE SERIES!
JOSS WHEDON’S ANTIHERO VAMPIRE RETURNS!
APRIL 18, MILWAUKIE, OR – Dark Horse Comics announces a brand-new Spike miniseries slated for release this summer!
Written by Victor Gischler (X-Men, Deadpool: Merc with a Mouth) and drawn by Paul Lee (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, The Devil’s Footprints), Spike promises to be the series all Joss Whedon fans will be talking about.
Spike ventures off world in his bug ship in order to get away from some personal frustration on terra firma, and winds up sucked into a demonic plot to take advantage of the absence of magic on earth.
“What I love about working with Dark Horse on Buffy-related material is that they take great care to capture the feel of the characters and stories from the television show, of which I was a huge fan. Getting my hands on the characters I’ve loved so much over the years is a dream come true,” said Gischler.
Spike #1 will be on sale August 22, 2012!

Save Evil Squirrel Comics in Rogers Park!

This is my new comic store.  I heart it! Why?  Friendly dudes.  A nice subscription service.  Knitting Night. Kid's Movie Club,  A mutual love for horror and Buffydom....did I mention a Knitting Night?  Well you should check it out.  Its right around the corner from the Mayne Stage (where we rocked it at Deathscribe a few days ago) a hop skip and jump from the Morse Redline stop and close to our good good buddies at the Lifeline Theatre.  Evil Squirrel Comics is in a bit of financial woesomeness and I really don't want another awesome comic book store to close yall.  They are amazing community centers to meet people and share ideas, as well as being the place that I buy my floppy cartoon fix.  We need local businesses like Evil Squirrel.  So stick it to the Barnes and Noble Man...buy your comics, games, t-shirts, and toys from a friendly awesome local business like Evil Squirrel!

Also...TODAY there is a Groupon Now!  And it is new comic day!  Weeee!  Ask for suggestions when you get there and you can get yourself a sweet comic or pick up a few Christmas presents.  I recommend Locke and Key...or Swamp Thing.  I am planning to pick up DC Super Pets, Patrick the Wolfboy, and Tiny Titans for my nieces for Christmas.  And perhaps a Munchkin game for the teens?  And don't forget a plushy Cthulhu...

See The Mayor on stage in Chicago in The Madness of King George....

Harry Groener is starring in the Madness of King George at Chicago Shakespeare.  I am thinking about seeing it.  It is gotten some great reviews and two of my friends are in it.  I hate to drop cash on pricey plays though when I can see three shows for the cost of one Chicago Shakes ticket...but it is THE MAYOR after all....

I miss you Buffy....listening to the soundtracks....

It's a long day at work today.  I am pushing through trying to get a bunch of costumes sewn in a jiffy.  needing some motivation, I popped in all the Buffy soundtracks.  It is amazing how much these songs are tied to the show in my brain...and how the show is so tied to emotions and memories in my brain as well.  Each song elicits a specific response and all of them make me miss this show so much.  Perhaps that is why I lost interest in the comic?  I think the music was that final amazing element of the show...

New Buffy and Angel DVD Boxsets 65% for a short time....

They have repackaged the dvd sets in slimmer cases. They should take up less space that way...but I am guessing that means that the dvds are stacked on each other in the case.  Which means the get extra scratchy.  It does not look like they have updated any of the original disc art, which would have been a nice update.

Deathscribe 2009 Accepting Submissions: Horror Audio Drama Fest

Would like to let you know about WildClaw Theatre's Second Annual International Ten Minutes of Terror Radio Play Festival.

Whew. Otherwise known as DEATHSCRIBE 2009.

Last October we brought almost 400 theatre, horror, and old-time radio fans together in Chicago's historic Music Box Theatre on a Monday night for a festival of short, scary radio dramas. Live actors, live foley artists and live musicians -- it was fantastic. And the pieces we produced were drawn from submissions we received from writers and horror enthusiasts all over the world.

We're doing it again. And we'd like y'all to be a part of it. We're looking for short pieces -- ten minutes or so -- written in audio drama format. And we're looking for scary. It could be old-school suspense, it could be gratuitous violence, it could be psychological terror, it could be a rubber monster romp.

We think it's an interesting challenge for a writer: ten pages, dialogue and sound effects only, and scary. We had about forty submissions last year, and every single one had a different take on the challenge. This year, we'd like to see your take.

Here is a page with all the official rules and whatnot. And for inspiration, here is a link to our daily blog where we have podcast recordings of last year's five winning pieces. Think you can beat them? We'd love to read it, perform it live and record it for posterity.

Hope to hear from you soon (before the end of July!).

Cheers and happy nightmares,

The WildClaw Mailing Daemon

Twilight Alert...New Moon Trailer

Hulu loves Joss Whedon! Two Bloody Thumbs Up!

Okay, I know I am really really late to the Hulu thing. You know it's bad when your mom has used something on the internets before you have. So I decided last night to give it a try after failing yet again to get the netflix instant play to work on my Mac...grumble. Verdict: Hulu was fabulous!

I was also pleased to see that they have a whole channel dedicated to horror! You can watch episodes of long cancelled sci-fi and horror shows like The Invisible Man and the awesome American Gothic! There are clips from upcoming films like 30 Days of Night as well as full on movies like The Birds and Aliens. All without any cost, nothing to download, and limited commercials. You do need speedy internet and sometimes the quality can be a bit gritty. But hey...free goes along way. Best yet, you can watch our beloved Buffy, Angel and Joss Whedon's latest, The Dollhouse!

Drag Me to Hell=Damn Good Fun

I saw an early screening of Sam Raimi's Drag Me to Hell on Tuesday night. T'was freaking awesome. I went with a group of my fellow horror compadres from Wildclaw Theatre and we all had a fabulous time. Bloody thumbs up all around. I will never look at dentures in the same way though. Shudder.

But anyway...what a great horror flick that was scary, gross, fun, and never once resorted to flagrant displays of boobies and demeaning imagery of women. I cannot say enough about the flick and I think it would appeal to Whedon fans. I can only hope that Joss' Cabin in the Woods will be equally swell.

Inkworks Closing!

Sad news...collectible card makers Inkworks is going out of business. This is a darn shame.

Cinequest has a good deal on some of their stuff. Please check it out and tell them I sent ya!

INKWORKS FAREWELL: We were very unhappy to hear that our favorite card maker, Inkworks, has closed its doors. We’ve known and admired Allan Caplan since before we started CineQuest.com. And we were always treated well by a company that made some of the best card sets ever and one that was a constant cheerleader for the non-sports world. While we are bummed that we won’t be seeing Ghost Whisperer or ongoing season sets for Smallville or Supernatural, we’re celebrating Inkworks’ legacy this week with a 20% off sale. Purchase $100 or more of Inkworks products this week, use coupon code INKWORKS and we’ll deduct 20% from your order (not including shipping).

Cinequest offers Lorne Figure with Orders...

This is super sweet of them...and a nice deal to boot. I love the guys at cinequest. Tell them I sent ya....

We at CineQuest.com - all Angel and Buffy fanatics - are mourning the passing of Andy Hallett, who played the wonderful Host of Caritas, Krevlornswath of the Deathwok Clan, the emerald entertainer, Lorne! Andy passed away Sunday at the too-young age of 33 after battling heart disease for five years. Some of us here had the opportunity to meet Andy at conventions and he was always fun to be around and warm to fans! We'll miss him but are glad we will always have his great creation on DVD to belt out a show tune, crack wise or add heart and soul to a dire situation. We wish those close to Andy well and send our heartfelt condolences. Goodnight, Andy.

In honor of Andy, all orders of $25 or more of in-stock merchandise this week will receive a free "House Always Wins" Lorne action figure so he'll be on all our shelves as a wonderful memory. Once you order, just send us a note at info@cinequest.com asking us to include Lorne in your package.

Capt. Tightpants Alert: Castle

Last night, Nathan Fillion's new show, Castle, premiered on ABC. I liked it. He is adorable. The show is a bit cutesy at the moment but shows some promise. If you like Bones and the faux flirting of Booth and Brennan....than you will probably like this show. I would love to know what you thought?

Shiny Alert! Little Damn Heroes Mal Statue!

Little Damn Mal!

I aim to misbehave.' With these words, Malcolm Reynolds, captain of the Firefly-class transport Serenity, let loose upon the Alliance the kind of retribution only a man with nothing left to lose can exact. The 4 1/2" resin statue shows Mal ready for action, his gun drawn and browncoat billowing behind him as though he's just taken a bead on some Purple Belly who's earned his righteous ire. Joss talks Dollhouse

Straight from whedonesque.com

What happened when the lights went out. Sadly, this is not a naughty
post. It’s just Joss nattering on again.

I thought it was time to check in with you once again, gentle
viewers. Or readers. Or pictures-looker-ats (that might be viewers).
Also listeners, sniffers, haberdashers, Olympic hopefuls, the
elderly, the youngerdly, and the mighty state of Oregon (go Oregon-
based sports franchise!) Welcome all. Welcome... to me.

What’s me up to? I’m glad me asked. Me’ve (I’m not doing that any
more) been working on a little show called Dollhouse. Yes, perhaps
you’ve read about how it’s blazing an untrammeled path to surefire
success, with nary a hitch or a hiccup, just pure blazing blazery,
comet-like and meteoresque. What’s that, you say? You’ve read other
things? Dark, Yog-Sothothy rumors about shutdowns and delays?
Poppycock! They’re true. But I never pass up a chance to say
"poppycock". ("Balderdash" is so ’07. Let it go.) I know there’s been
a lot of concern, various fabulous hues of panic alert readiness. So
here’s the skinny. Some of the names have been changed.

The show was ruined by Flim Flinear. Okay, that’s another lie, and
you’re probably close to giving up on this blog, so here we go. Yes,
we’ve had to make adjustments. Yes, it’s been hard and I’ve been
depressing to be around for awhile. Basically, the Network and I had
different ideas about what the tone of the show would be. They bought
something somewhat different than what I was selling them, which is
not that uncommon in this business. Their desires were not
surprising: up the stakes, make the episodes more stand-alone, stop
talking about relationships and cut to the chase. Oh, and add a
chase. That you can cut to. Nothing I hadn’t heard before on my other
shows (apparently my learning curve has no bendy part) but
frustrating as hell given our circumstances - a pilot shot, scripts
written, everybody marching together/gainfully employed... and then a
shutdown. Glad I was for the breathing room, but it’s hardly
auspicious. So back into the writer cave I went, wondering why I put
up with this when I can make literally dozens of dollars making
internet movies. Why I do put up with this is divided into three parts.

One: They’re not wrong. Oh, we don’t see eye-to-eye on everything,
but wanting the first episodes to be exciting and accessible is not
exactly Satanic. Being Satan is, but that’s in their free time and
hey, there’s no judging in the Dollhouse. This kind of back and forth
has happened on every show I’ve done, so if you liked those, chances
are that was a part of why. And the need to focus on the essentials
of what makes this universe tick - and which wire to cut to make it
stop - really does bring up our game. So we as a staff have gone from
blinking like unhoused moles to delving in with the same relish we
had when we started. The show is really coming together now, in a way
that I believe excites us and satisfies the Network. Of course, I
have no idea if anybody else will like it, but I have the same faith
in the staff, the crew and the remarkable cast that I always did.
More, in fact. And what’s more crucial:

Two: Nothing essential has changed about the universe. The ideas and
relationships that intrigued me from the start are all there (though
some have shifted, more on that), and the progression of the first
thirteen eps has me massively excited. The episode we’re shooting now
I wrote as fast as anything I have before, not because I had to
(although, funny side-note: I had to) but because I couldn’t stop the
words from coming. Because I can feel the show talking to me;
delighting, scaring and occasionally even offending me. It’s alive.
Alive! Which is a far cry from how I felt a month ago. It’s been
hilarious trying to keep up with what’s in, what’s out, who’s met
whom and when - we’ve shot all of the first seven episodes out of
airing order - but it’s come together in a pretty thrilling way. My
huge gratitude to our cast for their precision and patience. Which
also includes...

Three: Eliza. Watching her on the monitors at two o’clock this
morning I was reminded forcibly how much I wished I were in bed – but
also how strong, radiant and unmistakable her presence is. She’s
someone who could coast on talent and never ever does. I love to
watch her work. In fact, I think I got myself into this mess for that
very reason, and though I have this fall occasionally sworn never to
eat lunch with an actor I like again, I’m pretty pleased and crazy
proud.

So here’s me, slogging away on a show like days of old and not hating
life. Again, you guys will be the judge, jury and execu... lawyer,
but we do have something to show you. Something, I’m chuffed to say,
still pretty damn strange.

As for what’s been changed, well, some things I obviously can’t tell
you. Some I can, for the record: The original pilot was in fact
thrown out. Again, at my behest. Once it became clear what paradigm
the Network was shooting for, it just didn’t fit at all, even after
I’d reshot more than half of it (see above re: despair). To get a
sense of how completely turned around I was during this process, you
should know there was a scene with Eliza and the astonishing Ashley
Johnson that I wrote and shot completely differently three different
times, with different characters in different places (actually I
wrote it closer to eight times), and none of it will ever see air.
Which is as it should be (though I’m determined to get Ms. Johnson
back in the future). The scene just didn’t belong anymore. Similarly,
the character of November has fallen out of the mix, because the show
simply moves too fast now for me to do what I wanted with her. Season
three, anyone...? Happily, Miracle Laurie is still with us in a new
role, playing against (and pining for) Tahmoh’s character, Paul
Ballard. Their chemistry is deeply nifty. The only other major cast
shift is that the Dollhouse head of security, Laurence Dominic
(played by Reed Diamond), who was written just for the now-defunct
first ep, has stuck like fly-paper, and Reed is very much in the
family for the present. (Most of my problems seem to involve my
actors making themselves indispensable. This is the good problem kind.)

Apart from that, it’s all hush-hush: some things I’d intended to hold
back are laid out much sooner, and some are rolling out more slowly.
We’re still heading toward Tim’s intense two-part mind-blower - right
before a thirteenth ep that may actually just be insane.

And finally, young Steve DeKnight, after writing and shooting an ep
so cool it helped not only define the show but save its ass, is
ending his consulting duties, the f#%&er. I will be crying on the
shoulder of Jane Espenson come Monday, so congratudolences are in
order. Excited for the Jane Flava.

And there you have it. I’ll be writing more bulletins about "Cabin"
and a certain DVD in the very near future, but I wanted to get you
all some actual information for a change. I can count on you guys not
to tell anyone, right? What’s a blog?

Faithfully, -joss.

My mini Spike doll....

Weee! Remember when i talked about that pricey resin ball jointed doll I had made of James Marsters...well it arrived today! And 'tis awesome! It still needs it's face-up (the paintjob), eyes, wig, and clothes. I have a body for him too but the picture turned out all blurry. If anyone is interested in getting one, head over to Den of Angels for more info. There is currently a thread dedicated to getting a group order for a Buffy, Willow, Vamp Willow, Vamp Spike, and even an Angel down the line.

Warning...these dolls ain't cheap! A head goes for around $100 and to get a body would be at least another $200...not to mention the eyes, wigs, and clothes can cost a ton. But they are very expressive, unique, photograph like a dream, and usually have an excellent resale value. And I have something that only 10-20 other people in the world have...so there ya go. I am also getting the buffy head too...Spike needs his girl.

Tonner makes Twilight Dolls!

Weee! I sort of expected this to happen. I only wish he would get the Buffy license as well. Maybe someday....

Summit Entertainment, TWILIGHT, which arrives in theatres nation-wide on November 21, 2008.
Sculpted in the likenesses of the film’s lead characters - Edward Cullen (as portrayed by Robert Pattinson) and Bella Swan
(as portrayed by Kristen Stewart), - each fully-authorized, highly-collectible TONNER CHARACTER FIGURE™ (TCF)

Based on Stephenie Meyer’s best-selling book series, having sold more than 10 million copies domestically, Twilight has
captured the attention of readers of all ages, via its action-packed, modern-day love story between a teenage girl and a
“good” vampire, who must protect her from “bad” vampires while resisting his natural instincts.
Tonner's marketing division began to take shape with its HARRY POTTER film series and is now in full swing with the
addition of TWILIGHT. Romances are abundant in both storylines and have become much more important elements to
this burgeoning, sought after segment of buyers. “TWILIGHT was the perfect project to help launch us further into the
teen and adult market,” Robert Tonner, CEO and head designer of the TONNER Company says.
“I am a huge fan of Stephenie Meyer’s work and I intend to read everything she writes,” Tonner explains. “She is
unbelievably talented and it's an honor to be able to work on this project.”
Tonner plans to release other characters from the film in addition to Edward and Bella. “I want to make them all,” Tonner
admits. “I’m having such a blast reading the books and getting to know all of the characters. I’m also reviewing movie
stills, sculpting and designing. I’m completely immersed in their world,” he says.
