Serenity PVC Set
By: Gentle Giant
Serenity fans rejoice! The master sculptors at Gentle Giant Studios have taken full-size 3-D digital scans of the main actors from Joss Wheden's blockbuster film Serenity and created a fabulous, realistically detailed PVC set of the favorite three crew members. This process has allowed us to achieve an unprecedented level of accurate detail, both in terms of the distinctive likenesses and the accessories and costumes. Since you can't get these actors to come visit you at home and sit on your bookshelf or computer, this is probably the next best thing! This is part of a continuing program of officially licensed Serenity items from Dark Horse, so watch this space for new releases. Publication Date: May 16, 2007 Format: Featuring Jayne (4" tall), Mal (3.9" tall), and River (3.45" tall), Packaged in deluxe, full-color window box Price: $17.99

Serenity in Disguise Ornament!
Due to overwhelming demand, we are creating a special variant edition of one of our most popular new releases, the Serenity ornament. This will be a special release, and will be limited to advance orders only. No reprints or reorders. As Serenity fans know, there is a sequence in the film where the crews disguises Serenity as a Reaver ship. We’ve taken the existing ornament, added a few sculptural details, and revised the paint application accordingly. Voila! Something special for the true fan.We will accept orders for this item until March 1, 2007, and will then set the print run. That’s it. We will not go back into production on this variant ship after that.Like the regular ornament, this version will have both a hanging hook and also a small pedestal base, allowing the ornament to be hung traditionally or displayed on the base on a flat surface. Publication Date: May 24, 2007 Format: 6" long x 3 1/2" wide, full color ornament Price: $24.99

Rumor has it more sculptures, ornaments, and other merchandise are on the way in addition to another comic book run! The more of this we get...the more the hope stays alive that we will get our Big Damn Trilogy! Shiny!

Firefly Universe goes Online...I will never leave my house!

From Wired.com
Firefly Reborn as Online Universe
By Mark Wallace
Dec, 07, 2006
Like Capt. Mal Reynolds stumbling in after a bar fight, the short-lived but muchbeloved sci-fi series Firefly will soon make an unexpected return, not as a TV show, but as a massively multiplayer online game. Now that's shiny.Multiverse, maker of a free MMO-creation platform, plans to announce Friday morning that it's struck a deal with Fox Licensing to turn the show into an MMORPG in the fashion of Star Wars Galaxies or Eve Online. The "Browncoats," as Firefly's most devoted fans are known, have been campaigning to bring the show back almost since the moment it was canceled in late 2002. Now they'll get their wish, albeit in a new form."We see virtual worlds as an extraordinarily promising new entertainment medium," said Adam Kline, Fox Licensing's vice president of media enterprises in an e-mail. "We believe Multiverse can deliver an experience that will remain true to the original series, while enabling a whole new level of personal involvement for fans."Canceled in the United States after only 11 episodes, Firefly has become the Star Trek of 21st-century sci-fi fandom: a show that seemed to remake the genre even as it stayed faithful to the conventions of "hard" science fiction, like engine room problems and menacing hordes lurking on the edge of known space. What made the show special was the wry, often self-deprecating humor of its characters, from the captain with the checkered past to the unwittingly sexy engineer, the dull hunk of a mercenary with a girl's name, and the mysterious young woman passenger with special gifts. The online version will move away from those central characters -- after all, there's only one Mal Reynolds. In an MMORPG, "everybody has to have their own story," says Multiverse co-founder and executive producer Corey Bridges."Television series can be really good properties to turn into MMOs, because when you make a TV series, not only do you need great characters, but you need to create a full, rich, compelling place," Bridges says. "If you're doing science fiction, you have to really think it out and create an incredibly rich environment that is compelling in its own right, and worth exploring and going back to week after week. That's what Joss Whedon did with Firefly."The universe of Firefly and its spinoff film, Serenity, featured everything from Old West-style towns to futuristic urban environments, gritty spaceships and pastoral retreats -- freedom fighters, oppressive government agents, smugglers, outlaws, mercenaries, trader, townsfolk, futuristic geishas and a race of corrupted humans known as the Reavers.Bringing those environments and character types to life as an online game will be a challenge: Multiverse is not a game developer, but rather a platform provider whose product is still in beta. Instead of making the game itself, the company will hire a development team that will craft the virtual galaxy using Multiverse tools."We want to find someone who wants to do something unique and fun and interesting, not just a re-skin of World of Warcraft or Star Wars Galaxies," Bridges says.Because the underlying technology is already in place, "I feel confident that we'll see something the public can play sometime in 2008," he adds.Founded by several early Netscape employees, Multiverse hopes to do for virtual worlds what Netscape did for web pages: provide a universal browser that lets users access any world built on the Multiverse platform using the same client software.Already, some 7,000 development teams have registered for the Multiverse beta, according to Bridges, and more than 150 are making MMOs and non-game virtual worlds on a full-time basis. The tools are provided for free, with Multiverse taking a cut of revenue only if developers charge for their games, or for virtual items available within their worlds.Landing Firefly on the Multiverse platform would seem to be a sure-fire promotional move. But satisfying the show's committed fans will not be easy. Online communities like FireflyFans.net, the show's premier fan site, have generated an endless stream of fan fiction, art, blogs, pod casts, meet-ups and even a fan-produced documentary, Done the Impossible, which briefly broke into the top 1,000 in DVD sales on Amazon.com.The announcement comes just in time for this weekend's second annual gathering of Firefly fans at the Hilton hotel in Burbank, California. The "Flanvention" has already sold out, with 500 prepaid attendees signed up.Bridges shrugs off the pressure; he just wants to make "something worthy of the show," he says. "This all springs from the genius that is Joss Whedon. It's rewarding beyond words to be able to hopefully be a footnote in the history of Firefly."

Footnote form me: The flanvention was cancelled at the last minute so fans planned a backup bash...a bunch of the actors showed up anyway to just hang out. Gotta love those guys. I know I sure do...

Jewelry as seen on Buffy and Angel

Head over to A.C. Chase to get the same jewelry worn on Buffy and Angel. I have a few of these pieces myself and they are very nice. If you sign up for their mailing list, they often send you coupons. In fact you might be able to score one just by emailing them and asking for one (Never hurts to try!) I just got a $25 gift certificate myself. I recommend the Byzantine Cross myself. I have it and its totally gorgeous!!! I just ordered the Jade necklace myself.

Sneak Peak New Buffy Statues!

The new issue of the Radical Confidential came out today at Diamond Select Toys! It gave us the sneak peak above (which looks like blondie bear to me) and refers to it as an exciting new statue line. The newsletter sent by email also says to look for the new "Bargaining" bookends soon! Very exciting. JusticeDemon on BTVSFigs Forum (JD works for ye olde DST) says, "They're not six-inch statues. Bigger, but not so big as to infringe on any other Buffy license." So they are only, 'slightly bigger than a bread basket' then. So larger than a figure but smaller than the Sideshow Premium Format Spike.

Shout out for Spike-ku's

Its haiku-time Whedon style. Post some haikus in the 5-7-5 style (five syllables, then seven, then five). I'll start:

In hope of seeing her face.
Why must I love her?

That was way lame...I am sure you can do better! My favorite one will get a scooby snack (prize).

Robin, Drusilla, Oz, and the Judge!

Check out DST for news and pics on the upcoming Robin, Drusilla, and Oz action figures!

Assemble the Judge!

With the release of Giles and Faith approaching, DST is excited to bring you an update concerning Sunnydale's hairiest musician, England's craziest vampire and Nikki Wood's only son. Scheduled for a Spring 2007 release, the next assortment of Buffy the Vampire Slayer action figures will also include a challenge to fans -- Assemble the Judge!

Included with each Oz, Drusilla and Principal Wood action figure, fans will be able to assemble the severed pieces of the demonic villain to create their own Judge action figure! Just like the show, the Judge will be divided into pieces and will only rise to terrorize your collection once all the pieces have been reassembled.

With "Doppelgangland" Oz, "Surprise" Drusilla and the limited "School Hard" Drusilla making up the core assortment along with the Previews Exclusive Principal Wood, the remaining variant figures will be announced once details have been finalized. In scale with past figures, the Judge was sculpted by Rudy Garcia and features full articulation.

Look for more details as the Spring 2007 release date approaches!

Joss and yours truly at Wizard World Chicago...

"Firefly" star Nathan Fillion appears in podcast novel

Fresh from the first-ever launch party for a novel in the popular
online community "Second Life," the 7th Son podcast novel trilogy has
achieved another "first" in podcast history: Actor Nathan Fillion,
star of the TV sci-fi series "Firefly" and film "Serenity," will
appear in the free audionovel 7th Son, Book Two: Deceit on Nov. 14 as
a special guest reader.

Fillion, whose future projects include appearances in this season of
ABC's hit series "LOST" and the lead role in the supernatural thriller
film "White Noise: The Light," will read a segment at the beginning of
the Nov. 14 episode. Called "The Story So Far...", this segment recaps
events of the novel's previous episode.

This is the first time Fillion has appeared in a podcast novel, and
may be the first time the actor has recorded original content for any
podcast.

While Fillion is best known for his role as Capt. Malcolm Reynolds in
the TV series "Firefly," 7th Son author J.C. Hutchins has admired the
actor's work since he appeared in Steven Spielberg's 1998 film,
"Saving Private Ryan."

"It's an absolute honor to have Nathan on the podcast," Hutchins said.
"Folks best know him as a well-grounded hero in a science-fiction
epic. 7th Son -- a reality-driven sci-fi thriller -- is a good fit
for his cameo. Current listeners of 7th Son will love his 'previously
on' reading ... but this also provides a terrific reason for new
listeners to hop aboard."

Fillion's appearance is the latest in a series of "very special" guest
readers for Book Two: Deceit. Best-selling science fiction, fantasy
and comic book writers have also appeared on the podcast, including:
Robert J. Sawyer ( Mindscan, the Hugo-award winning Neanderthal
Parallax trilogy), Mike Resnick (Santiago, the Starship series), Tracy
R. Hickman (Dragonlance series), Jeph Loeb (writer/co-executive
producer for NBC's "Heroes," Batman: The Long Halloween) and Mark
Waid (Superman: Birthright, Kingdom Come). Patrick Lussier (film
editor for the "Scream" horror trilogy, and film director for "Dracula
2000") also recently read a recap for the novel.

7th Son, a free weekly podcast, is the most popular "podiobook" series
in history. More than 11,000 listeners currently tune in each week to
hear new chapters of the thriller. 7th Son is the #1 most popular
program at the podcast directory PodcastPickle.com, and is listed in
iTunes as one of the Top 25 podcasts in its Literature category. The
first novel in the series -- titled Descent -- was nominated for
numerous awards for excellence in podcast fiction. The novel has also
been featured on such popular blogs as BoingBoing.net and
MissSnark.com.

ABOUT 7th SON:
7th Son is a free weekly podcast novel. The story chronicles the lives
of seven strangers who have been brought together after the recent
assassination of the U.S. president. These men quickly discover they
all appear to be the same man, with identical childhood memories.
Unwitting participants in a human cloning experiment, these "John
Michael Smiths" have been assembled to catch the man who murdered the
president. Their target? The man they were cloned from, the original
John Michael Smith, code-named John Alpha.

7th Son, Book Two: Deceit and Book One: Descent can be found at
www.JCHutchins.net, and at www.Podiobooks.com.

Soon to come...blog with all new podcasting powers! That's right...i am joining the geeky unwashed masses who record random ramblings in their echo-y bedrooms about their favorite episodes and whatnot. I swear mine won't be so lame.
