Save Evil Squirrel Comics in Rogers Park!
This is my new comic store. I heart it! Why? Friendly dudes. A nice subscription service. Knitting Night. Kid's Movie Club, A mutual love for horror and Buffydom....did I mention a Knitting Night? Well you should check it out. Its right around the corner from the Mayne Stage (where we rocked it at Deathscribe a few days ago) a hop skip and jump from the Morse Redline stop and close to our good good buddies at the Lifeline Theatre. Evil Squirrel Comics is in a bit of financial woesomeness and I really don't want another awesome comic book store to close yall. They are amazing community centers to meet people and share ideas, as well as being the place that I buy my floppy cartoon fix. We need local businesses like Evil Squirrel. So stick it to the Barnes and Noble Man...buy your comics, games, t-shirts, and toys from a friendly awesome local business like Evil Squirrel!
Also...TODAY there is a Groupon Now! And it is new comic day! Weeee! Ask for suggestions when you get there and you can get yourself a sweet comic or pick up a few Christmas presents. I recommend Locke and Key...or Swamp Thing. I am planning to pick up DC Super Pets, Patrick the Wolfboy, and Tiny Titans for my nieces for Christmas. And perhaps a Munchkin game for the teens? And don't forget a plushy Cthulhu...

See The Mayor on stage in Chicago in The Madness of King George....
Harry Groener is starring in the Madness of King George at Chicago Shakespeare. I am thinking about seeing it. It is gotten some great reviews and two of my friends are in it. I hate to drop cash on pricey plays though when I can see three shows for the cost of one Chicago Shakes ticket...but it is THE MAYOR after all....

Deathscribe 2009 Accepting Submissions: Horror Audio Drama Fest
Would like to let you know about WildClaw Theatre's Second Annual International Ten Minutes of Terror Radio Play Festival.
Whew. Otherwise known as DEATHSCRIBE 2009.
Last October we brought almost 400 theatre, horror, and old-time radio fans together in Chicago's historic Music Box Theatre on a Monday night for a festival of short, scary radio dramas. Live actors, live foley artists and live musicians -- it was fantastic. And the pieces we produced were drawn from submissions we received from writers and horror enthusiasts all over the world.
We're doing it again. And we'd like y'all to be a part of it. We're looking for short pieces -- ten minutes or so -- written in audio drama format. And we're looking for scary. It could be old-school suspense, it could be gratuitous violence, it could be psychological terror, it could be a rubber monster romp.
We think it's an interesting challenge for a writer: ten pages, dialogue and sound effects only, and scary. We had about forty submissions last year, and every single one had a different take on the challenge. This year, we'd like to see your take.
Here is a page with all the official rules and whatnot. And for inspiration, here is a link to our daily blog where we have podcast recordings of last year's five winning pieces. Think you can beat them? We'd love to read it, perform it live and record it for posterity.
Hope to hear from you soon (before the end of July!).
Cheers and happy nightmares,
The WildClaw Mailing Daemon

A little old-school vamp makeup for you....
.jpg)
I am doing the costumes for Collaboraction's Sketchbook '08, a short-play festival opening May 15th at the Steppenwolf Garage and running to June 16th. Here is a fun production still from a video shoot we did on wednesday night. These are two characters from a black and white "Nosferatu" style film. I did the costumes and the makeup. I used both the original Nosferatu and Angel's Prince of Lies for inspiration! Enjoy!
